Natural Gas Engineering

Low emission fuels for the future

Natural Gas Engineering is the application of Petroleum Engineering know-how to the development of natural gas resources. Natural gas has becoming an increasingly significant source of energy to people all over the world. Not only does the world have huge resources of natural gas but it also offers lower greenhouse gas emissions than other hydrocarbons. Australia has significant resources of both conventional and unconventional natural gas.
Australia's conventional sources of natural gas are found offshore from Western Australia, the Northern Territory and Victoria, as well as in the centre of Australia – around Moomba in South Australia and Queensland. In fact, Australia has so much conventional gas that it is a major exporter of liquefied natural gas.
In addition to these resources, Australia also has significant unconventional gas resources. Unconventional gas resources are those that are not found in discrete pockets or traps (like conventional oil and gas) and may require additional stimulation for for the gas to be produced. Instead, unconventional gas is found over large areas and includes coal seam gas (also known as coal bed methane) and shale gas.
